About Dr Ong
Dr Ong Wei Chen graduated from the medical school at the National University of Singapore in 1997. On completion of basic surgical training, she was awarded Membership diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2000, and Masters of Medicine in Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 2001.
In 2004, she was awarded the Ministry of Health’s Human Manpower Development Programme scholarship to fulfil a one year Microsurgical Fellowship Programme at the Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery and St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. In her year there, she gained experience in many areas of reconstructive surgery as well as in tissue engineering.
She completed her Advanced Surgical Training in Plastic Surgery at the National University Hospital, and has been a Ministry of Health accredited plastic surgeon since 2007. She is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Dr Ong has served as Senior Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Division of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, National University Hospital, before leaving to join Gleneagles Medical Centre. She continues to serve as Visiting Consultant at the National University Hospital, as well as adjunct Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore.
Besides clinical work, Dr Ong has co-authored numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and book chapters. She has been invited to give lectures both locally and internationally on various topics in Plastic Surgery.
Dr Ong has been active in reconstructive work, including breast reconstruction, reconstruction after oncological resections (including skin, head and neck, abdomen, pelvis and extremity), facial reconstruction after facial nerve palsy. Her other areas of interest include body contouring surgery, and facial and breast aesthetics.
