About Dr Shermela
Dr Shermela Appan has been a Singapore Ministry of Health accredited paediatrician for the past 39 years, with special interests in children’s growth and puberty, and asthma and allergies. Dr Appan has 29 years of private paediatric experience as a partner in The Children’s Medical Centre in Bishan.
Training
- Graduated from the University of Singapore in 1977 – Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
- Graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1981 – Master of Medicine (Paediatrics)
- Became a member of the Royal Colleges of Physicians UK (Paediatrics) in 1983
- Conferred Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, in 1987
- Conferred Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh in 1997
- Consultant in the Department of Paediatrics in Singapore General Hospital from 1989 to 1990
- Awarded the HMDP Fellowship in Paediatric Endocrinology and was trained in the Department of Endocrinology in Middlesex Hospital in London for a year in 1988
