About Dr Lai
Dr Lai Choon Hin is a senior consultant orthopaedic surgeon and director at AP Centre for Joint Reconstruction, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
His expertise includes all forms of reconstruction and replacement surgery for the hip, knee, elbow, shoulder and ankle, and treatment of sports injuries and fractures. He has extensive experience in revision of failed joint replacements due to loosening, infections and periprosthetic fractures and treating patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythromatous (SLE), Ankylosing Spondylitis and Avascular Necrosis (AVN).
He received his specialist training in hip, knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle primary and revision replacement surgery and tumour surgery for 2 years, under supervision by the world renowned surgeons of the Mayo Clinic.
At the Mayo Clinic, he learned and used the direct lateral approach to the hip which has a much lower rate of hip dislocation as compared to the posterior approach for hip replacement surgery commonly done in Singapore. He does minimally invasive (MIS) surgery, computer navigation surgery, and robotic surgery using both the Robodoc and Makoplasty systems.
Dr Lai was former Director and senior consultant, Adult Reconstruction Service, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, performing joint replacement and reconstruction surgeries for degenerative arthritis, sports injuries and fractures of the hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, foot and ankle.
He was President, Singapore Orthopaedic Association in 2007 and founded the ASEAN Arthroplasty Association (AAA) to teach doctors in joint replacements in ASEAN countries.
