About Dr Yegappan
Dr Yegappan graduated from the National University of Singapore School of Medicine in 1992 and is currently a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon practicing at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Parkway East Hospital, Singapore. He is a specialist in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and does mainly arthroscopic reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder.
He completed his orthopaedic training in Singapore and did his sports medicine fellowship in the Methodist Sports Medicine Centre in Indianapolis, USA, from 2002 to 2003. His sub-specialty interest is in the management of cartilage lesions in the knee and ankle. Dr Yegappan has treated cartilage defects with both the first and second generation techniques of chondrocyte implantation. In addition, he also has a special interest in the management of multiple ligament injuries of the knee dislocations.
Currently, he is an instructor for the ISAKOS basic and advanced arthroscopic workshops in Singapore and the ASEAN region. He has travelled extensively in the ASEAN region to teach and perform live surgery.

The Centre provides consultations at clinics located in Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Parkway East Medical Centre and Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre. The Centre aims to provide easy access to quality and comprehensive care for athletes at all levels, and for any patient, who wants to return to his previous level of activity.
We provide multi-disciplinary care for both the physical and emotional welfare of our patients, through a quality team of health care professionals – surgeons, sports physicians, physiotherapists, orthotists and podiatrists. Rehabilitation is an integral and vital part of our comprehensive approach to quality care for the injured. As such, we work closely with the physiotherapists to ensure that our patients return rapidly to their former level of activity.
We provide prompt and comprehensive consultations and surgical care for a variety of sports injuries and joint problems. Some of these conditions include:
- Knee meniscus, ligament and cartilage injuries
- Kneecap (patella) instability and pain
- Tendinitis and muscle injuries around the knee and lower limb
- Shoulder instability and dislocations
- Rotator cuff tendon tears of the shoulder
- Shoulder biceps conditions
- Elbow instability and dislocations
- Elbow stiffness and contractures
- Tendinitis around the elbow – Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow
- Hip labral tears and femoro-acetabular impingement
- Tendon and muscle issues around the hip
- Ankle sport injuries including sprains, instability and tendinitis
- Arthritis/Degenerative conditions of the knee, shoulder, hip and elbow
- Fractures of the knee, shoulder, hip and elbow
We utilize the latest techniques and recent advances in the treatment of these conditions. We perform most of these surgeries through key-hole or arthroscopic techniques to minimize pain and downtime from the sport, for the athlete or patient.
Dr Yegappan is an experienced sports surgeon with many years of experience in treating sportsmen. He performs cartilage transplantations using autologous chondrocytes. Recently, the newer 3rd generation technique has been done by Dr Yegappan with excellent results.
Dr Ramesh is fellowship trained in sports injuries and arthroscopic surgeries of the shoulder, knee and elbow. He is also one of very few surgeons in Singapore, who are trained in hip arthroscopy. He has previously been involved in the care of rugby players and Gaelic football players during his stint with Santry Sports Surgery Clinic in Dublin, Ireland. He has also been involved in the care of soccer players in Barcelona (Spain), and has been a keen interest in soccer injuries.
