About Dr Teo
Dr Jim Teo Yeow Kwan is a respiratory physician and intensivist based in the private practice. He is accredited in internal medicine, respiratory medicine and intensive care medicine with special interests in asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, non-invasive ventilation and intensive care medicine. He was also a visiting consultant to Ng Teng Fong Hospital.
Dr Jim graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1997. He trained in general medicine and obtained the Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) and the MRCP (UK) in 2003. He continued with sub-specialty training in the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), Singapore and was accredited by the Specialist Accreditation Board as a Specialist in Respiratory Medicine in 2007. Further that, he spent a year doing Intensive Care Medicine in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Australia. He had obtained both the European Diplomas in Intensive Care Medicine and Adult Respiratory Medicine.
Prior to joining private practice, Dr Jim was a Consultant in the Department of Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine in TTSH. He managed patients in the medical intensive care unit (MICU), including critically ill cases from the H1N1 pandemic in 2009 and oncology patients from John Hopkins Singapore International Medical Centre. He also initiated the first bedside percutaneous tracheostomy in the MICU, TTSH. Besides managing ICU patients, he also provided expertise to managing patients in Non Invasive Unit in TTSH and Tuberculosis Control Unit in Singapore. For his achievements in the public sector, Dr Teo was awarded the Courage Star Award in 2003 for his contribution during the SARS outbreak. He was also awarded TTSH Excellent Service Award in 2006, and TTSH 10 Year Long Service Award in 2009.
Dr Jim loves to teach and is still actively involved in the education of young doctors and nurses. Presently, he is the instructor for Basic Cardiac Life Support Course, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course and Fundamental Critical Care Support Course in Singapore. He is a Clinical Teacher for medical undergraduate teaching, National University of Singapore and intensive care medicine Trainer appointed by specialist training
committee.
Currently, Dr Jim sits in various medical committees in Mt Alvernia Hospital, Parkway East Hospital and Concord Cancer Hospital.
