About Dr Ooi

Dr Ooi Lai Hock graduated from United Medical & Dental Schools of Guy’s & St Thomas’s Hospitals in 1996. His post-graduate qualifications include a Master of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery) (Singapore), and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr Ooi was formerly Deputy Head and Consultant at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. He was also the Division Chief of the Foot & Ankle, and Sports Medicine Services. In addition, he was a member of the hospital’s Medical Board. Dr Ooi has been awarded numerous prizes, including First Prize for Best Research Paper Award 2008, Singapore Medical Journal; Top 10 Teacher award for 2007-8 in Tan Tock Seng Hospital; and Silver EXSA recipient for 2008.

An avid sportsperson, Dr Ooi is currently the team captain of the CoolJoe’s Football team. He was past Captain of the SJIOBA Football team and ex-member of the ORA Rugby team.

Specialized Services

Dr Ooi has dual sub-specialty areas of expertise in foot and ankle surgery as well as adult reconstruction surgery after receiving his sub-specialty training at the Perth Orthopaedic Institute, Australia. Besides general orthopaedic and trauma surgery, other surgical procedures performed by Dr Ooi include:

a. Surgery for bunions or hallux valgus
b. Ankle arthroscopic surgery and ankle lateral ligament reconstructive surgery for ankle instability
c. Radiofrequency coblation therapy for plantar fasciitis (chronic heel pain)
d. Management of diabetic foot deformities and ulcers
e. Hip and knee replacement surgery
f. Knee arthroscopy, meniscal surgery and cruciate ligament reconstruction
