About Dr Chong
Dr Chong Kian Chun graduated from the National University of Singapore with the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1997. He subsequently obtained the Master of Medicine in Orthopaedics (MMed) from the National University of Singapore in 2001. In 2004, Dr Chong was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of Edinburgh (Orthopaedics). He subsequently underwent subspecialty training in Sports Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
Before joining Island Orthopaedic Consultants, Dr Chong practised in Changi General Hospital as Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon, and the Director of Orthopaedic Sports Service.
Dr Chong is an active member of the Orthopaedics Specialist Training Committee (STC) that oversees the training of young Orthopaedic doctors in Singapore. He holds office in the 2009 Executive Committee of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association, serving as the Honorary Secretary. In addition, Dr Chong served as faculty for postgraduate Sports Medicine, and undergraduate Orthopaedic training. To promote the growth of arthroscopy, he has organized and instructed at numerous workshops on shoulder and knee arthroscopy. He is currently an associate member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA).
Specialized Services
Dr Chong’s subspecialty interest is in minimally invasive arthroscopic reconstructive surgery of the hip, knee and shoulder. He is one of the few Orthopaedic surgeons in Singapore who is trained in the techniques of hip arthroscopy. Common procedures performed by Dr Chong include:
a. Hip arthroscopic surgery, including femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) decompression and labral repair
b. Knee arthroscopic surgery, including anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, multi-ligament knee reconstruction, meniscus repair and cartilage resurfacing
c. Shoulder arthroscopic surgery, including rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilization and stiff shoulder release
